Description
In the style of Alfons Mucha
I've not drawn an Easter-themed picture before, I don't properly celebrate it but I do like a lot of the old traditions which have got mingled in with the later religious story, and can certainly get behind the idea of decorating a hat with ribbons and bows and whatever seasonal flowers can be found - clearly so can Ambrose Laurence said the bonnet looked better without the oversized twigs of hedgerow thorn blossom tied on, but it's impossible to stop Ambrose doing something he's passionately - or stubbornly - set his heart on, and he wanted wild blossom on his hat so there!
(This is why I had to look at photos of daffodils the other day, I couldn't remember how they worked - even though I have some in my garden it was raining, and I didn't want to go outside, heh)
The frame-background here isn't copied from any one particular Mucha painting, I just made one up in the general style of his work. I'm not sure if that was easier or more difficult than having a reference to recreate, on the one hand it left more opportunity to improvise and just go with what happened (the loose strands of border line are entirely based on what I could make the 'select path' tool do with very little experience or control over what happened when I clicked things, lol), but having to invent it all from scratch was a bit daunting when it's such a distinctive and well-known style, heh.
Mucha used a lot of female figures in his scenes, nearly nude or half-covered in clingy fabric which showed off the curves, so in these modern more equal times I think it only fair to have a scantily clad male modelling the bonnet - no-one else in the cast of characters would have enjoyed it quite so much as Ambrose anyway, it had to be him : he adores flowers and hats, and posing prettily
The working title (and still the filename) for this was MyPrettyFloralBonnet, butI decided against calling it that on here incase anyone clicked in expecting Firefly fan-art and was gravely disappointed by the actual subject matter, hahah
(I've uploaded the lineart here if anyone's interested in work-in-progress screenshots, you can see how much time I put into details which won't even show once it's coloured, heh )
