Miss Cecily Evangeline Lambert, Autumn 1914

Description

Fifth in the Autumn series, and the only lady amongst them!

Cecily is Ambrose's youngest older sister, she's nineteen here, but due to family difficulties, hasn't seen her beloved brother for a long time - and won't again until next summer (I already drew the day they're reunited, oingy-boingy.deviantart.com/ar… because strict chronological order would require more planning and less 'I feel like drawing autumn!' moments where I throw a spanner in the works and start going back in time for a little seasonal colour, heh :D )

The family resemblance is striking, she has the same nose and the sleepy dark eyes are familiar too, and if Ambrose grew his hair longer, it would curl just the same. While the boys in this set are thinking about joining the army, Cecily is considering volunteering as a nurse to contribute to the war effort by helping wounded soldiers recover. Her friend and occasional sweetheart Ned from the greengrocer's thinks it's just a passing fancy because she read an article about Florence Nightingale, and doesn't reckon she's really going to do it. Ned's right, in the end, Cecily does something different during the war - and that's partly his fault, too. More on that matter when you 'meet' him, I haven't even written his first chapter yet!

Cecily's coat is based on the one on the left in this illustration from an Edwardian clothing catalogue thedreamstress.com/wp-content/… (courtesy of Google images because I knew nothing about ladies' fashion for the era), though I didn't copy it exactly - it's rather a hybrid, with two different fabrics rather than overwhelmingly all-tartan, and the more fitted waist of the black coat there.
The pink dahlias in her basket are because I couldn't think of any flowers which bloom this time of year, and pink dahlias were the only ones I saw anywhere on my way home yesterday, heh.

Love her expression, she looks so serene. It's cool to see you draw women's clothes from the era; they look difficult. Oh and she's got a hat. :D Not to mention an elegant one. Good color choices as usual.
