The Farm Boy

Last month I happened to see a photo from a GQ magazine fashion shoot which reminded me so much of Ambrose that I just had to redraw it with him taking the model's place - the original can be seen here along with my scribbled sketch : sta.sh/02brfqsjwaz2 - it's not so much the boy's looks, as they're very different faces, but the atmosphere and feel of the photograph which just said AMBROSE as soon as I laid eyes on it. This is the first time I've put my boy into a photo, he's been added to classic paintings before, but it was a lot of fun copying the image as closely as I could, translating it to a painted style and different person without losing the resemblance to the original. His outfit had to be tweaked just a little : he always wears braces not a belt because trousers were made without belt loops in his era, and I added his soft cord cap this time cos I know he'd rather be wearing it than not if I consulted him on the costume choices!
